New IM App For The iPhone 4S-A Look At TU Me

The iPhone 4S features an excellent messaging facility that enables users to keep in touch with one another by sending short text messages. Despite the phone offering this excellent feature many users still opt to install additional messaging services that make it easier to chat with friends and family. Telefonica have launched their own application called TU Me which is perhaps the most impressive messaging system for the 4S that we have encountered.

Telefonica is one of the largest private telecommunication companies in the world and the number one Spanish multinational company. They have decades of experience in this area which they have applied to this very impressive new application for the iPhone 4S. The software is available as a free download from the iTunes App Store and competes directly with other similar applications such as Whatsapp and Viber. Where TU Me differs from many rival platforms is that it enables users to make voice calls and leave voice messages. In addition to this the usual features are all present such as the option to send short text messages, multi media files and location details. The application presents user with a very well designed interface that displays all content in a timeline which can be easily scrolled. A full record of all interactions is kept by the application and users can also search for a specific contact quite easily.

The iPhone 4S offers a wide range of great connectivity options and this is perfect for the Tu Me application. For people who spend much of their time travelling the software will work over a 3G connection which offers excellent data transfer speeds. A range of other mobile network connections are supported on a variety of worldwide networks. In addition to these types of connection the application also has the ability to work over WiFi networks. Not only does this type of connection provide the ultimate speeds but it also saves users needing to rely on a monthly data allowance. Stephen Shurrock is the Chief Commercial Officer for Telefonica Digital and he commented, “TU Me puts all your communications needs into one place, for free, and is a great way for people to stay in touch with those close to them”. At present the TU Me app is only available on the iOS platform but it is due to be launched for Android devices later in the year with other platforms set to follow close behind.

The TU Me software for the iPhone 4S is one of the most impressive communication applications currently available for this device. A simple interface makes the app a pleasure to use while the ability to instigate voice calls is a feature not boasted my many other pieces of rival software.

Music Magpie-A New Way To Make Money With Your iPhone 4S

It is easy to spend lots of money by using to your iPhone 4S to purchase applications that are available from the iTunes App Store. There are some apps available however that can actually make the user money. Music Magpie is an internet site that offers to purchase your unwanted CD’s, DVD’s and console games. The service is now available as an application for the iPhone 4S, making it easier than ever to turn your unwanted products into cash.

Music Magpie for the iPhone 4S is a well designed piece of software which makes the whole process of selling your goods a very simple affair. One thing we did notice from using the service is that the prices offered for items were quite low and realistically you could expect more from a second hand shop. Taking a pile of CD’s and movies to your nearest shop could prove a time consuming affair while using Music Magpie is quick and very simple. Typically we were offered around 70 pence for a music CD while DVD’s ranged from 90 pence to around £2. We also tried some older Xbox titles and these attracted similar offers. Nobody is going to get rich from using this application but if you have a cupboard full of old items you could make a nice amount of pocket money. In order to sell your goods you must have a minimum of ten items but Music Magpie does send a pre paid package label and if there are over 50 units a courier will be sent to your address to collect the items.

The Music Magpie application is very well designed piece of software for the iPhone 4S. The app makes uses of the primary camera which is located on the back panel of the phone. Simply point the phone at the barcode on your item and the software will give you a value on the item that you have scanned. In order to sell product users need to register an account but this is easily done on the phone. Each item that you scan is placed into your basket and this can be reviewed at any time and any items can be removed if necessary. If you do not have the time to scan all of your items in one session all products are kept in your basket for 48 hours so you can easily return and finish off at a later time. When it comes to receiving your money users can choose to be paid by a cheque or by e voucher and there is even an option to donate your amount to charity should you desire.

Music Magpie is one of those rare applications for the iPhone 4S that actually helps users to make money. The software is well designed and very easy to use. With many people relying on internet services for audio and video playback most consumers will have a plenty of CD’s and DVD’s that they no longer have a use for which can make them money by using this great app.

New Science Application For The iPhone 4S

A brand new application has launched for the iPhone 4S that gives users a guided tour of certain exhibits from the Science Museum in London. The new James May Science Stories application is now available from the iTunes App store for just £1.99. We take a look at what this exciting new software has to offer.

This new application for the iPhone 4S is not only endorsed by James May, presenter of the popular television series Top Gear, but it also features his voice and body within the application. This new software makes clever use of augmented reality so that the presenter appears on screen when you visit the museum and walk around the exhibits. The application provides a running narration on the exhibit that you are viewing. Even if you do not have time to visit the museum in London you can still take a virtual tour with the application. One of the most impressive aspect of this app is how well it blends content on the phone with what you can see at the museum. As you walk around chosen exhibits you view James May’s on screen character from different angles. At certain points the character that you see on screen actually casts a real shadow on the item you are viewing which helps to merge virtual reality and physical reality.

At this moment in time there are nine exhibits which work with the James May Science Stories app for the iPhone 4S. The developers of the software have also promised that future updates will see more exhibits added. During the launch of this software James Made a very interesting point that this application could give us a glimpse into how we may view video content that is broadcast in the future. Despite only providing actual voice narration the application does a wonderful job of making the user believe that he is actually in the room with them. Not only does the software look very impressive but it is also very easy to use. When visiting the museum the exhibits that are supported by the app are listed on the phones screen. Select the exhibit you are currently viewing and point the phone at the special marker which is located on top of a plinth. James May then appears on top of this plinth on the phones screen to guide you through the most important aspects of the item that you are interested in.

This new application for the iPhone 4S is one of the best examples of smartphone augmented reality software. Not only is Science Stories very easy to use but it delivers a host of useful information in an innovative and fun manner.

The Apple iPhone 4S – An Overview Of Contract Deals

When choosing a new smartphone, it can pay to shop around for the best deal, as they vary greatly in terms of their monthly cost, monthly allowances, phone price and contract length. In this article I will look at these parts of the contract using a popular iPhone 4S deal from O2, and explain the terms of each tariff so you can get the best deal for your needs.

When you take out an iPhone 4S contract, many will offer the handset itself for free, which can mean a great saving as you will not have to pay the several hundred pounds for the cost of the handset. Instead, you will pay a monthly fee, generally over 18 to 24 months. This fee will spread the cost of the phone, as well as including a monthly allowance of calls, texts and data usage. Some contracts will require you to pay for the phone, be it the full price, or a smaller amount. If this is the case you will often find that the monthly payment is considerably lower. A popular O2 contract is called O2 Unlimited + 1GB, and this includes the handset for free and the contract lasts for 24 months.

Free Calls
Just about every iPhone 4S tariff will include a set number of minutes of free phone calls, which can be made to any UK network or non-premium rate landline. The aforementioned O2 plan is one of the most generous out there, offering an unlimited amount of free calls. This is rare these days, as even many more expensive tariffs will still have a monthly limit, no matter how generous. As a bonus, these calls can also be made at any time of the day, even in ‘peak’ times.

Text Messages
The O2 Unlimited +1GB plan for the iPhone 4S also comes with an unlimited number of free text messages every month. Again, even with many more expensive contracts, you will find that there will be a cap on the number of free text messages, so this O2 deal is one of the best out there. Please not, multimedia messages vary from carrier to carrier. Some will provide them for free, whereas others may charge around 10 pence. This is still a small price to pay considering that you get the free text messages and free calls, and most people only use MMS messages occasionally.

Data Allowance
As the name suggests, the O2 Unlimited + 1GB plan has a 1GB data allowance per contract month. This is one of the more generous data allowances out there. Because the iPhone 4S is well known for its web browsing abilities, as well as apps which require internet access to work, it pays to opt for a contract with a decent amount of data if you plan on using such features. Although 1GB may not sound like much, it is actually way above the average monthly usage for UK mobile phone users. Also, this allowance only applies to data downloaded via O2’s 3G coverage. Wi-Fi connectivity means you can browse the internet on your iPhone 4S to your heart’s content without using any of your data allowance.

The O2 Unlimited + 1GB plan for the White iPhone 4S costs £36 per month, which makes it one of the most appealing iPhone 4S plans available in the UK. Remember, you also get a free iPhone 4S which would cost £541.99 if you purchased the SIM free phone.

Apple is due to release the iPhone 5 later this year, and this should drive down the cost of many iPhone 4S contracts so you can get an even better deal.

The iPhone 4S Has Several Excellent Music Apps

When it comes to music features on a smartphone, the iPhone 4S reigns supreme. Thanks to its integration with other Apple products like iTunes and its built in iPod functionality, it has everything a music lover could want from a mobile phone.

However, there are of course a large number of additional apps which can be downloaded from the music category in the AppStore. In this article I will take you through some of the top music apps available which can enhance the functionality of the iPhone 4S as a music phone.

Shazam

Have you ever been in a situation where you hear a song you like but don’t know the title or artist so you can get it at a later date? This is where the Shazam app comes in. The app works by ‘listening’ to a sample of the song, and it will then access an online database of music which consists of millions of songs to find a match. If a match is successfully found, the details such as the title, artist and album will be displayed. Also, there will be a link which takes you to that song on the phone’s iTunes where you can download it directly to the phone. The app is very simple to use. When you hear a song you wish to identify, simply open the app and hold it to the source of the music (e.g. a speaker). The app will then require a few second to identify the song and it will then access the database and display the described results. The free version of Shazam comes with a monthly limit of ten uses. If you become a frequent user of the app, you can choose to upgrade to the paid version. This costs £0.69 and allows unlimited uses. For its low price, I recommend this app, especially if you have ever found yourself in the aforementioned situation where you wish to identify a song.

TuneIn Radio

There are many radio apps available in the AppStore, but TuneIn radio is among the most popular. This app offers much more than the usual functions found on most radio apps, hence its popularity. First off, it has one of the biggest catalogues of available radio stations, with over 50,000 from all over the world. These are sorted by genre, region etc, making it easy to find what you are looking for. Because of the dual-core processor in the iPhone 4S you can multi task, whereby you can have the app running in the background, listening to a radio station while you are using other apps, browsing the web for example. TuneIn radio also allows you to search all available stations for a particular song which is currently playing, and even allows you to pause a live stream for up to 30 minutes. It is features like these which set TuneIn radio apart from the others. If you listen to the radio on your iPhone 4S, or wish to start then I highly recommend the TuneIn Radio app.

As you can see, there is much more to the iPhone 4S and its music attributes than just the apps which are included as standard. If you take the time to browse the music category of the AppStore, you are sure to find many apps which suit your needs, and enhance your iPhone 4S music experience. Be sure to check out the iPhone 5 when it is launched later this year for more music features.

The iPhone 5-A Second Nano Device May Also Be Released

Since the original iPhone was launched in 2007 the Apple device has dominated the premium smartphone market. The handsets have been a global success thanks to the innovative new features that each new version of the phone delivers. This year we are preparing for the launch of the new iPhone 5 and it also looks likely that Apple will also release a second device with this phone that targets consumers looking for a more basic device.

Rumours have been circulating about an iPhone Nano for some time now. Although the Apple iPhone has achieved phenomenal success in the premium end of the market a number of other manufacturers such as Samsung and HTC produce a number of models, many of which are targeted towards the more budget end of the market. It looks like 2012 may be the year when Apple choose to spread their wings and launch an assault on the entire phone market rather than just the premium end. Even when new iPhone models are released the older versions of the handset still command huge fees. At present the iPhone 3GS which is two years old still retails at £300 without a contract which is a price much higher than many brand new Android budget phones. There is certainly a gap in the market for a wallet friendly iPhone and by launching the device alongside the new iPhone 5 Apple will be sure to keep their premium fans happy along with a host of new consumers.

We are expecting to see the new iPhone 5 released in June so consumers may not have long to wait until they can get their hands on this model and the new budget version of the iPhone. At this moment in time the specification of this more basic iPhone does remain a mystery. With the iPhone 5 we can be fairly certain of some of the specification as we can take a look at how older models have progressed. This will be a brand new product so one could only hazard a guess at what specification Apple will include on the model. The Nano handset will definitely be a smaller version of the iPhone 5. Over the past two years the company have excelled at producing the best 3.5 inch displays so it is very likely that the new model may feature one of these. The new iPhone 5 is also set to feature a quad core processor so expect a version of the A4 chipset used on the iPhone 4 to also be included on the new budget iPhone.

Premium phone fans everywhere are eager to see exactly what the iPhone 5 will offer and it looks as though Apple will introduce a second model perfect for users looking for the famous Apple functionality but minus the very high price that the new iPhone 5 will command.

The Best Selling iPhone 4S Boasts Several Useful Communication Apps

The Apple iPhone 4S allows you to send and receive messages and carry out phone calls using a number of different formats. This is achieved via both the standard formats as well as those provided by apps downloaded from the AppStore. In this article I will look at some of the communication apps available, so you can take advantage of the benefits they bring.

FaceTime

The FaceTime app makes its first appearance on the iPhone 4S, working alongside the handset’s built in front facing camera. You can only use the app if the person you are speaking to has a device with FaceTime (iPhone 4S, iPad, iPad 2 etc) and a front facing camera. If they have, then you can carry out video calls over a Wi-Fi network, so you can not only hear them but also see them in real time. This app is especially useful if you are contacting someone oversees, as you can avoid the notoriously high call charges associated with calling foreign number on a telephone. Because it is free, this app comes highly recommended.

WhatsApp

This is an app which allows you to send and receive SMS and MMS messages for free. Most iPhone 4S tariffs have an allowance of free messages included, but if you go over this allowance, an app like WhatsApp can be very useful. Because the app uses a 3G or Wi-Fi connection, messages incur no charges (although data charges may apply when using 3G in certain situations. To be sure, use Wi-Fi whenever possible). This app costs £0.69 from the AppStore and I think this is very good value as you can use it to send an unlimited number of text messages and media messages. You can only send messages using this app if your intended recipient also has WhatsApp installed on their phone. WhatsApp is also available for other operating systems like Android, so can also be used on phones like the Samsung Galaxy S2, for example.

As you can see, there are more options for communication on the iPhone 4S than the standard phone and message features. If you use apps like those outlined above wisely, you can significantly reduce your monthly phone bill. These kinds of apps are great for those who have lower allowances on their tariff or who use a Pay As You Go plan. There are many more such apps on the AppStore which allow you to communicate for free using an iPhone 4S; be sure to check out my other articles for details on some of these. A great Android powered alternative to the iPhone 4S is the Samsung Galaxy S2.

A Closer Look At Displays On The iPhone 4S And The HTC One S

When the iPhone 4S was launched in October 2011 it was the most advanced mobile handset available and as a result scores of consumers were eager to get theirs hands on one of the devices. As time passes however technology moves on and now the specification of the 4S is more comparable with a high quality mid range device rather than one of the new premium handsets that are available. As a result of this we have seen the price of the iPhone also decrease slightly over this period. We see how the model compares with the new HTC One S, one of the leading new mid range phones, for screen technology and design.

The iPhone 4S boasts a very unique design which is part of the reason why it has been so popular with consumers. The model perfectly combines two glass panels with a slim steel strip which is sandwiched in between them. When you actually handle the phone it feels very premium and part of the reason for this is that it weighs 140 grammes which is slightly heavier than many of the new models that are being released. The glass design of the phone is actually very durable which is somewhat surprising and this is thanks to Apple using Gorilla Glass in the design which is much tougher than traditional panels. The chassis design was first used on the iPhone 4 in 2010 and despite its age it still compares favourably with many new models that are being launched. The HTC One S is also a very stylish phone and one could argue that it is the best looking device that HTC have ever released. The model uses a metallic chassis which has undergone an oxidising treatment during its manufacture which gives it an impressive finish and also helps to make it more durable. The model is slightly larger than the Apple device but it does feature a larger screen so this is to be expected. The HTC handset offers a much more curved design and the appearance of the phone could almost be described as pebble like. Both of these handsets boast excellent design and while the iPhone 4S may offer the more unusual materials one could argue that the gentle curves of the One S are more aesthetically pleasing.

At its time of release the iPhone 4S had the highest quality screen available and it still remains one of the best examples of display technology on the market. The Retina display used on this phone uses LED backlit technology to produce an excellent resolution of 960 x 640 pixels. This enables the handset to display a pixel density of 326PPI. This is actually a level that exceeds what the human eye can detect and this is why the screen has been affectionately named the Retina Display. The one disadvantage with this display is that it is one of the smallest of any current smartphone at just 3.5 inches. The HTC One S uses a larger 4.3 inch Super AMOLED screen. Technically this screen is superior to the LED panel on the Apple device as it can produce more vivid colours and more natural depth. The resolution however is lower at 960 x 540 and combined with the larger display means that pixel density on this model drops to just 256 pixels per inch. Although the technology found on the One S is very impressive the screen cannot deliver the image clarity of the 4S thanks to the superb pixel density offered by the Apple phone.

Despite being one of the older phones on the market the iPhone 4S still manages to hold its own against many of the newer handsets that are being released. When compared to the HTC One X it was hard to fault either phone in terms of design but when we looked at screen performance the Apple device still offered a superior picture.

Liquid Metal To Deliver Extra Strength To The iPhone 5

In the next few weeks we are set to see the launch of the new Samsung Galaxy S3, the eagerly awaited new flagship handset from Samsung. It is widely expected that we will see the new iPhone 5 revealed soon afterwards as Apple are keen not to lose ground on their closest smartphone competitor. New rumours suggest that these two new devices will be focusing on the design of the handsets in a bid to catch the attention of the buying public.

The latest rumours to surface on the internet suggest that the new iPhone 5 will be constructed from a new liquid metal material. The iPhone 4S was the last major smartphone release from Apple and although this model was very pleasing on the eye many consumers complained about the rather delicate glass construction. Despite toughened glass being used on the front and back panel of this phone there were still numerous cases of the phone being damaged when dropped. Apple look to have taken this on board and will construct the new model from liquid metal. The use of this type of material means that the phone will not only be incredibly durable but it will also be much lighter in weight than previous versions of the phone. It is no secret that Apple currently have patents pertaining to liquid metals and in particular the materials use in the construction of mobile phones so do not be surprised if this is one rumour about the new phone that proves to be correct.

It looks as though the Apple iPhone 5 may not be the only handset that uses liquid metal in its construction as Samsung are also looking to use the same type of material on their new Galaxy S3 handset. With several major smartphone manufacturers offering very similar technical specification on their devices the design of the phone is becoming one of the most vital aspects. Apple have always been renowned for their ground breaking styling and Samsung will be keen to ensure that their technically superior phone can match their biggest rivals when it comes to design. We may not have long to wait to see if these rumours regarding the construction of these two new devices prove correct. Samsung are holding a major event on May 3rd where it is expected that the Galaxy S3 will be unveiled. We will probably have to wait until the end of the summer before we hear such news about the iPhone 5 but certainly by the time autumn arrives we will have had a chance to see both of these devices in the flesh.

The use of new materials on the iPhone 5 is no surprise as Apple attempt to give the handset an edge over its competitors. Given the success of the Samsung Galaxy S2 it is also no shock that the manufacturers are trying to compete with Apple in this area rather than focusing on more common designs that are offered by numerous other phone manufacturers.

AP Mobile And BBc News-Our Favourite iPhone 4S News Apps

The iPhone 4S is a hugely popular mobile phone that benefits from the massive selection of additional applications that are available from the iTunes App Store. While many people like to use this service to download the latest games and puzzles some users would rather use their phone to keep up to date with the latest news from around the world. There are several excellent news applications available but we take a look at two of our favourite apps for this superb device.

AP Mobile is one of our favourite news application for the iPhone 4S. Many newspapers and news stations cannot afford to have journalists in every major city in the world waiting for a major news story to break. Instead these services rely on freelance journalists and many of these work for the Associated Press. These journalists and reporters deliver their stories to major channels and outlets which are in turn broadcast to the public. The AP Mobile application cuts out the middle man by delivering these news items directly to your mobile phone. As there is such a large volume of content available this application can sometimes feel a little more complex than many others that are available but it does deliver a huge selection of stories from across the globe. The application includes video links and photographic content. For people who want a wide selection of unbiased news stories and reports AP Mobile may prove the perfect application.

If you would rather stick with a more popular service then the BBC News application for the iPhone 4S is one of the very best available. The BBC are based in England but have built a great reputation for providing news on a global scale. The BBC News website features a massive selection of stories but this can prove somewhat difficult to navigate on a 3.5 inch screen and that is where the official application comes in handy. The main news stories are presented in a manner that is more suitable for a mobile display and the interface is very easy to navigate. One of the really attractive aspects of this software are the customisation options that it offers to the users. If you are not really interested in politics but you like to keep an eye on the latest sport news you can choose what content is displayed on the main page. This saves you time in finding the stories that are relevant to you. The BBC News application is available for free from the iTunes App Store.

There are several great news apps available for the iPhone 4S but AP Mobile and BBC News are two of our favourites. AP Mobile may offer a wider selection of stories but the BBC services offers a more polished interface with more in the way of customisation options.

A Review Of A Couple Of Essential Apple iPhone 4S Applications

If you have recently got your hands on an iPhone 4S, you will no doubt be impressed with its features. It has a number of pre-installed applications, and of course access to thousands of downloadable apps via the AppStore. In this article I will look at some must have apps which you can download today to increase the functionality of the iPhone 4S.

Angry Birds
Of course, games are by no means essential, but the popular Angry Birds app is a great showcase of how addictive and fun gaming on the iPhone 4S can be. Its simple gameplay style and colourful graphics are partly responsible for an estimated 500 million downloads across all formats. For £0.69, you will no doubt be entertained for hours on end. The game is a simple strategy based game which required you to launch the ‘Angry Birds’ characters from a catapult in order to destroy structures and eliminate the enemies.

Facebook
If you own an iPhone 4S, the chances are that you also have a Facebook account. If this is the case, you can download the free Facebook app from the AppStore. When you have saved your login details within the app, you can then carry out most functions that you can on the Facebook website using a computer. You can even use the iPhone 4S’s GPS functionality to check yourself and friends in at locations which will automatically be displayed by the app. Of course, you can also manage friend requests, post status updates, and like or comment of your friends’ statuses on the go, over 3G, Wi-Fi or a mobile network connection.

Shazam
Have you ever been in a bar or shopping centre and heard a song you like, but don’t know the name of the song or the artist. With Shazam, you can instantly get all the details of a song, simply by opening the Shazam app and holding your phone near the speaker the music is coming from. When the app has identified a song, details such as the track name, artist, album etc are displayed. There is also a link which takes you directly to the track on iTunes, so you can download it onto your phone there and then. Of course, not every song will be recognised, but the Shazam database has millions of songs on file, so the majority of times, you will get a positive identification.

Of course there are thousands of other apps available from many, many categories within the AppStore. Hopefully, this article will have opened your eyes to the versatility of the iPhone 4S, thanks to the numerous apps available. There is also a White iPhone 4S available.

A Look At A Couple Of Best Selling iPhone 4S Contracts

The Apple iPhone 4S is one of the most popular smartphones in the world, thanks to its innovative features and ease of use. To purchase the handset outright would require an investment of some £541.99, so many choose to take out a contract with a mobile network whereby they pay a monthly fee instead.

In this article I will look at the cheapest iPhone 4S deals from O2 and Orange, two of the biggest and most popular mobile network providers in the UK. I will only focus on the deals which include a free iPhone 4S handset so you can save even more money.

O2 200 + Unlimited + 500 MB
At £27 per month, this is the cheapest deal with a free iPhone 4S handset that O2 currently offer. It comes with a decent package of allowances which most users should find suitable. The contract period of this deal is 24 months. For your £27 per month, you will be entitled to 200 minutes of free calls, which is not the highest available but should be fine for average use, or those who only make phone calls occasionally. If you prefer to communicate via text message, this may your ideal tariff. There are no limits to the number of text messages you can send every month for the duration of the contract, although charges may apply when sending messages abroad or to non mobile numbers. Finally, data is capped at 500 MB per month, so you are able to take full advantage of the handset’s web browsing capabilities over O2’s 3G coverage. If you exceed the allowance or wish to preserve it, you can of course choose to use Wi-Fi whenever you have access to a wireless network.

Orange iPhone 31 Extra
For £31 per month (again, for 24 months), you can sign up to Orange’s cheapest tariff with a free iPhone 4S handset. Like the aforementioned O2 deal, you get unlimited free text messages every month, so you will have the peace of mind knowing that you will never have to pay for a text message sent within the UK. The free phone calls are slightly less, at 100 minutes per month, however this is somewhat offset by an increased data allowance. At a full 1GB, it offers double the data allowance of the above O2 contract, so is ideal for those who rarely use their phone to make calls but frequently browse the internet or use apps which require and active internet connection like Facebook or the handset’s email app.

As you can see, there are both similarities and differences to each tariff, meaning that a particular one may be better suited to certain users. To find the right iPhone 4S deal for you, follow the link at the bottom of this article where you view every available deal across all UK networks. Here you will also find plenty of White iPhone 4 deals.

Making The Most Of The Google Maps Application On Your Apple iPhone 4S

Google Maps is a feature which is included as standard on the iPhone 4S. Many people are familiar with the app, but it can do a lot more than people realise. In this article I will look at some of the impressive characteristics of the software so you can make the most of it.

Google Maps utilises the GPS functionality of smartphones like the iPhone 4S which allows you to pinpoint your current location. To do this, simply tap the arrow in the bottom left corner of the app’s interface. The app will then determine where you are, and drop a virtual pin on the map in a Birdseye view. You can then of course use the pinch to zoom function of the retina display to zoom in to the map to get a closer look at your surroundings. The pin will also be labelled with the current location which can be handy if you are lost. In some areas, you even have the option to view the map in street view. This allows you to view a 3D map which uses actual photos taken from a car in the location. If you use this feature in conjunction with the app’s ability to provide directions, it can prove very handy if you need to find your way to a specific location.

The map can be viewed in three different formats. The first is the classic map view. This looks just like a real map that you would find in an atlas, and makes it easy to plan car journeys as all roads are clearly labelled. The second is Satellite view, which displays aerial photos of the location making it easy to spot landmarks. Thirdly, there is a hybrid view. This provides the best of both, as it has the detail of the satellite mode with the clearly labelled roads and locations from the standard map view.

Google Maps also allows you to plan journeys with its easy to use directions function. Simply type your destination and starting point into the appropriate bar and the app will automatically calculate the best route for you to take, with options including car, public transport and walking. You can even enable a traffic view which will highlight the roads with bad traffic conditions based on real time traffic data. This means you can then avoid obstacles like traffic jams which could potentially delay your journey.

Google Maps is an app which many unfortunately take for granted but as you can see it has a number of useful real world applications. With this app, your iPhone 4S is even more functional than ever before when used properly. Google Maps is also available on Android smartphones like the HTC One X.

The iPhone 4S-Speaktoit Application Reviewed

One of the attractive features of the new iPhone 4S is the excellent Siri voice recognition software that comes supplied with the phone. There are however some impressive alternative services that are available from the iTunes App Store. We take a closer look at the new Speaktoit application, the newest voice recognition service to become available for the iPhone.

The new Speaktoit application for the iPhone 4S uses the famous Dragon Dictation voice recognition software to ensure that the software can easily respond to your question regardless of regional accents. The service offers a very simple and clean user interface that makes full use of the excellent resolution that the phones Retina display can offer. Your personal assistant takes the form of a cartoon character on the screen and a large microphone icon is located beneath this. To ask your phone a question simply tap the microphone icon and speak away. Once you have asked your question it appears on screen in a similar format to how SMS message conversations appear on the device. Unlike many similar applications this new software can do much more than simply search the web for answers to your questions. Speaktoit interacts with a large number of the native applications that can be found on the phone. This means that users can post social networking updates, compose e mails and check directions by simply speaking to their phone.

When we tested the application on our iPhone 4S we spoke with quite a broad East Anglian accent and the software managed to correctly respond to about 50 per cent of our commands. When we toned down the accent a little this figure increased to around 90 per cent which we were very impressed with. When the application speaks back to you all words are pronounced clearly and precisely although the speech is a slightly slower pace than you can find on Siri so it does not always feel as though you are having a fluent conversation with your phone. There are lots of customisation options available. You can change the gender of your assistant and also their hair colour and clothing. If you feel this element is not necessary it can be disabled so you are simply presented with a blank screen and your microphone.

Although Speaktoit for the iPhone 4S does not quite scale the heights achieved by Siri it is still a very impressive application that offers a visually attractive layout and excellent voice recognition. The nice thing about this software is that it will offer further improvements with any future updates that are made available.

The HTC One X And The iPhone 5-Design And Screens

At this moment in time there is one mobile handset which offers specification that eclipses what all rival models can offer. The new HTC One X is a powerful device that not only incorporates a quad core processor but also a host of other great features including a superb camera and the latest version of the Android operating system. There are some new models due for release soon however that are looking to outshine this great device. One of these phones is the new iPhone 5 from Apple. We take a look at the rumoured specification of this new model and see how it compares with the One X.

Although we have not seen any official shots of the new iPhone 5 we can be sure that this new device will boast a brand new design. The design of the iPhone 4S is now two years old as the same chassis was also used on the iPhone 4. In a bid to appeal to consumers who already own one of these models Apple will look to offer an exciting new design on their latest model. Apple are renowned for producing very stylish devices so we can expect something really special from the iPhone 5. Many reports suggest that the phone will offer an unusual curved design that will help it stand out from its competitors. The HTC One X is not only a very visually appealing device but it is also very well built. The handset measures 134.4 x 69.9 x 8.9 mm and weighs a very lightweight 130 grammes. The device looks much better than the majority of other phones that HTC have released thanks to the very thin bezel that surrounds the screen and its very slim profile. The design is curvier than many rival handsets but this works well with the textured back panel. The One X is one of the most attractive devices on the market but we can expect the new iPhone 5 to rival it in this area when it is eventually released.

When the iPhone 4S was launched the Retina display that it incorporated offered the highest pixel density on the market. Recently a number of new mobiles are offering screens that rival this display so we expect that Apple will raise the bar again for screen technology when they launch the iPhone 5. Not only will the screen on this new phone be considerably larger than previous iPhone models but it will also offer a pixel density higher than the 326PPI that the iPhone 4S offers. Until this model is launched the HTC One X offers a screen that beats just about every rival handset. The model uses a massive 4.7 inch Super LCD2 screen. Many models that incorporate larger displays usually offer a lower pixel density than smaller screened devices but this is not the case with the One X. The phone can show a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a total pixel density of 317PPI. The display is constructed from Gorilla glass which means that it is very resistant to scratches and scuffs and this material is also likely to be used on the new iPhone 5.

The HTC One X is currently the most impressive smartphone available. The phone boasts a striking design and a superb screen but we expect the iPhone 5 to rival this handset in both departments when it is finally released.

The iPhone 4S Is Still A Popular Handset

Despite an increasing number of competing smartphones, the Apple iPhone 4S remains as popular as ever. Companies such as HTC, Samsung and LG have recently been releasing some of the most cutting edge smartphone to date, but the iPhone is holding its own, despite hitting the market over six months ago.

The aforementioned companies all run the Android operating system on their flagship smartphones, with the most recently released boasting the ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’ version which is the latest incarnation of the platform. Apple only releases one smartphone at a time, so those who prefer iOS (Apple’s smartphone and tablet optimised operating system) over Android only have the choice of the iPhone 4S, or a previous iPhone model like the iPhone 4. The latest version of iOS is the 5th generation, and offers the familiar layout, ease of use and customisation that so many people love. Also, the AppStore is one of the most important strings to the iPhone 4S’s bow, allowing users to browse over 500,000 apps from various categories.

In terms of processing power, the iPhone 4S has quickly been overtaken by the competition, on paper at least. With a 1 GHz dual-core processor, the phone provides great performance, although many competing devices are now including quad-core processors of up to 1.5 GHz on their flagship phones’ spec lists. Unless you are well versed in the ins and outs of this technology it is unlikely that you will notice the difference between the processor found in the iPhone 4S and the more powerful ones found in newer smartphones.

The iPhone 4S is well known for its screen technology, sharing the famous retina display found on its predecessor, the iPhone 4. This screen technology gets its name because of the fact that the naked eye cannot distinguish between individual pixels. Although most newer handsets match or even out do the resolution of this screen, even on larger screens, the fact remains that if you cannot make out individual pixels, then there is no difference to the naked eye whether a phone has a high resolution or not. So although the spec lists on some new phones like the Samsung Galaxy Note or HTC One X may boast some of the highest screen resolutions out there, you are unlikely to notice the difference in display quality.

Although the iPhone 4S may be slowly getting overtaken on paper by competing smartphone manufacturers’ offerings, remember that Apple generally releases one phone per year. Later this year the iPhone 5 is due for release, and like previous instalments of the wildly popular iPhone 4range, it is likely to set the standard once again for the competition.

How To Preserve The Touchscreen On Your iPhone 4S

The Apple iPhone 4S is one of the most popular smartphone available today. Millions of customers around the world love the retina display, comprehensive multimedia functionality, 8 megapixel camera and of course AppStore which make this one of the most versatile gadgets in the world.

However, there is a scenario which many iPhone users are familiar with, and if they are not, certainly something they dread. If you have ever owned an iPhone 4S or an iPhone 4, it is possible that you may have dropped your phone causing the phone to crack or smash. Because the iPhone has glass panels on the front and back, they are susceptible to smashing when dropped on a hard surface. While this does make the phone look attractive, and gives it a feeling of great build quality, the brittleness of the glass is the only downside.

Luckily, there are a number of options to make sure that you do not fall victim to this inconvenience. Obviously, prevention is the best cure. Not dropping your iPhone 4S in the first place is the best way to ensure it does not smash, but of course, nobody does this on purpose. There are numerous iPhone 4S cases available, including many which are made of rubber. These can give you a much better grip than the glass of the handset itself, so the phone is less likely to slip out of your hand. Many of these are stylish additions to your phone which will provide plenty of extra grip without spoiling the aesthetics of the phone. If you do drop your phone when it has a rubber case on it, there will rarely be any damage to the phone, as the force is absorbed by the case rather than the phone itself.

In order to protect the screen itself, you can get special a specially measured plastic film which you lay over the screen. These stick to the glass, protecting the screen without jeopardising the display quality or the responsiveness of the touchscreen. While this option will not completely protect the screen from a full on drop on the ground, it will prevent the screen from getting scratched, and also limit the damage should a crack appear on the screen.

If you own an Apple iPhone 4S or an iPhone 4, I highly recommend that you invest in one or both of the products mentioned in this article. They are widely available from many different stored and online retailers, and for just a few pounds you can protect your precious iPhone should the worst happen.
